ahem! buying a pseudo-Eames chair is like doing a graphic design job in Arial because you didn't want to pay for a decent version of Helvetica. "It's almost the same, right?" Your design discrimination should not end on the page or screen. If you can't afford a new Eames chair buy a used one. Remember - it's pricy, but you will buy it only once because the real thing, looked after, lasts for decades. If you can't afford it, or you're saving for it, sit on something with its own design integrity - maybe a proper ergonomic task chair which Eames aluminium was never designed to be [high-end task chairs are also available used].

As designers you should also be sensitive to issues of authorship and credit - there's a difference between a licensed replica made with the blessing of, and credit to, the original designer, and something which trades on a designer's reputation without their permission.

I bought a chair for Xmas 2010, from Milan. Some screws missing due to box having hole in it on arrival, so have one wobbly arm rest :) I have had it about a week now and so far so good. It feels comfortable and I find I am not slouching. Due to my short height I still need a foot rest so my feet touch the ground! and I can be the right hight at the desk.

Cheers and thanks for advice. I am now saving for IMAC! :)

Liked your post and wanted to add yet another place where you could get some quality ergonomic office chairs.
We have the office chairs you are looking for at a very affordable price in the US.

hi,
i got the management chair, and should have gotten the first one (padded), it's a bit hard on the bum but very comfy.
I imported mine myself with a whole lot of other furniture.
Le Corbusier, Nelson, Nogushi, Arco Lamp, chesterfield, van der rohe, etc.
it's not hard to do this yourself if you need more than one piece. i took a bit of a risk but it was worth it.
hope this helps (i guess the big companies import them as well).
