Your Business Card is Crap!

This clip inspired us to make a reactive thread. We laughed so hard at this self professed ‘Rich jerk’. We couldn’t agree with his appellation more. Check it out, see what you think! Below are a few of our fav interactive business cards… that didn’t take 25 years to design!!

I am Emerson Taymor”

Emerson Taymor is a quirky ‘little’ guy. His business card seems to reflect his overall style, check out his website too.

Lego

Can you believe that this is a business card? For who else, but the employees at Lego. They are designed to look like the employee that they represent by matching hair color, style and accessories.

Tur & Partner

Jong von Matt of Germany (also featured in our European Print Article this month) made this awesome business card for Tur & Partner an architectural landscaping company. The card contains seedlings that germinate when you water and expose to light.

Raphael Essoo-Snowdon

He designed and created these awesome 3D glasses when he was a Graphic design student. He painstakingly did all of the cutting and construction by hand.

Peet Pienaar

Laser cut business card of South African performance artist/graphic designer Peet Pienaar. From Daddy buy me a Pony magazine.

I’m using art as an excuse to live a very interesting life — it allows you to be whoever you want to be, do whatever you want to do, go where ever you want to go. It’s like a free ticket.

1scale1

Lasercut business card of David Sjunnesson of 1scale1: a Critical Research Studio looking into the development of interactive media solutions. This business card really needed to be interactive for a company with that kind of a mission statement.

Scizors

Scizors is a small post-production company who asked Ben Schlitter to create their identity and branding. Those ambitious enough to cut on the dotted line are rewarded with a small paper robot.

Bracket

Bracket is a publication that features everything-in-between — ideas, process and voices overlooked and under-appreciated. Nice representation of the company through this simple yet effective idea… genius.

Che-Wei Wang

This design is inspired by Ken Blackburn’s world record paper airplane.

Tip: Fold the business card airplane with the wings tilted downward. It’ll fly like a dart. Nothing like a paper airplane flying around an office of board pencil pushers to get your message ‘out there’.

Murillo Design

A good identity promotes instant retention and long-term recall in an already overcrowded marketplace.

As stated on their website

And what better way to prove your point than practicing what you preach! Hell if they make it big, we might be able to use this business card as currency.

Donovan Mafnas

Business card of our very own lovable tutor and forum technical advisor at The Graphic Design School Donovan Mafnas. Donovan is not only one of the most professional and efficient people that we have ever had the pleasure of working with, he is a ‘kick ass’ designer. Love your work Dino… again!

Reactor

The boys at Reactor thought they were worth a little extra. This is a great concept for a business card to leave at an interview… sets an ‘up and coming’ designer apart from the hoards of potentials that an employer may seek. Nice one!

The catapult business card

Bryce Bell is a designer with a LOT of time on his hands, and quite a few fans.

You can create one of these yourself, by visiting his site for instructions and instructional videos. You never know when you may need a catapult for an ant invasion… think about it!

Wow, I cant believe that guy..he sure is right a Rich Jerk. I thought it got funnier the more I watched it. I really like the idea of creating business cards that go beyond the norm. The selection that you guys found was great. So great I Digged it. And I don’t just digg anybody, LOL.

  3. Leoni says:

Love it, love it, love it! These are fantastic! What more can I say, but I can look at this kind of stuff all day…inspiring!

Another card that IMHO could be included on this list is that of Kevin Mitnick.

  7. Robert says:

These were absolutely amazing — really out of the ordinary and creative. I’ve come across the “Rich Jerk” clip. It’s hilarious but also very true. It really has broadened my horizens when it comes to thinking of what’s possible for business cards. Another horizon that was recently broadened was in regards to printing — my new printer (http://www.digitallizard.com/graphic-designer.php) helped me design an online portal from which my clients can directly order prints from.

  10. Hi,
Like where you are going with the list, our is http://www.gotham.com.au/images/business-card-design-gotham.jpg which we are pretty proud of.

  11. Tanya says:

Tur & Partner is not a landscaping company, it is a landscape architecture company…very different. One is about the planning and design of outdoor space and the other is about building it. Your confusing the printer with the graphic designer.

  12. Good point Tanya, pardon our ignorance, we have amended ;)

  13. Bcardnow says:

Ciao! Excellent post .. would you have any Business Cards you would like to share with me on my new website: http://www.bcardnow.com.
    Thank you in advance!!

  14. Alex says:

Funny clip that was! I wonder where it originated from. I see it all over the internet nowadays. It might have took him 25 years to make but his business card looks something else than a business card and is rather impractical. People should take a lesson from that vid when they design their own business card.

  15. Dennis says:

Thanks for the great content and information. I am always going through the internet searching for good content and to also get ideas for my home based business web sites and future articles on this basic and general subject. Again, thanks for the great content and I will be coming back to revisit this site again for more information in the near future

  16. tenpens says:

ha ha!! funny clip altho i did think his ‘brilliant’ business card looked a like a beer mat when he first pulled it out!!! great to see some very creative & original business cards on here!!!

  17. pinkograf says:

    Hi there!
I would like to suggest another big collection of business cards:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/biglietti_da_visita/

here you can see transparent business cards, metal (steinless steel) business cards, clear plastic business cards… 700 business cards and more. With real photos, not mock up!

  18. Rob says:

The ‘rich jerk’ video is a joke for all of those who think it’s serious. It was part of a viral marketing campaign, a brilliant one in my opinion! His name is joel bauer if you want to look him up.

  19. Mike says:

    Great selection.

  20. wingnpryr says:

I saw the same clip on Rob Dyrdeck’s Fantasy Factory. Too great!

  21. Iraklis says:

Thanks for this great post! How nice this collection is!
Recently, I created a special blog for business cards in which you are going to find tips, advices, creative ideas, market research results, special offers and discount codes from Printing Companies. Check it out at: http://diveintobusinesscards.wordpress.com I am eager to receive your feedback!

  22. JPG HAWAII says:

    Wow, great post!
We always try to be creative and make very unique designs. Our clients are satisfied with results all the time. We also make business cards. :) check it out!

  23. Very cool selection of busniess cards. Got to love them.

  24. These are all brilliant and fun to see. All except the one that took 25 years to make. I have met that guy. He is for real. This is not an act. And he has fans. They’re the ones I’m really scared of. BC’s are only part of his “do it my way or die” seminar. Men have to wear black suits, pink shirts with matching pink ties. And pointy shoes! If you ever get a chance to see this idiot — Joel Bauer — by all means pretend you’re attending a seminar but know you are going to see a self-centered, demeaning, unbelievable one-man comedy act (although his presentation is not meant to be funny–he really believes his own bullshit!).

  25. The Taymor business card looks cools and its very creative business card.

  26. […] Speaking of starting, here is a list of cool cards you can check out for inspiration. This list and this one. […]

  27. aqsa says:

You are so creative. I have never seen these kind of cards before.
